Special Events

Mark your calendars for these upcoming events and observations!

February 14: National Donor Day
Sponsored by Saturn, National Donor Day attracts attention and gives awareness to organ, tissue, blood and bone marrow donation.  Saturn utilizes a website, posters and other promotional material to share the message, as well as provides information tables at auto shows across the nation.

April: National Donate Life Month
This month-long observation is one of the most widespread avenues for promoting donation.  Through hospital participation, events, health fairs and media coverage, CORE has great success gaining awareness for organ and tissue donation in April.

May: A Special Place Ceremony
Our annual Special Place Ceremony takes place each May.  It is a time when we honor donors and donor families from the previous year who have so generously and selflessly given the gift of life.  The ceremony features inspirational words from donor families, transplant recipients and others in the transplant community, as well as musical tributes and a balloon release.

August 1:  National Minority Donor Awareness Day
There is a rising need for minority donors in CORE's region and across the United States.  This event focuses on heightening awareness among minorites about the importance of organ and tissue donation.  In addition, it aims to dispell common myths and misconceptions that might be a hindrance.

November 10-12:  National Donor Sabbath
Each year, CORE invites all faith-based groups to take part in National Donor Sabbath, a time for religious reflection and discussion regarding the life-saving decision to donate.  We've learned that many individuals seek guidance from religious leaders when making the decision to donate.  Therefore, this weekend-long observance provides information and ideas for faith-based groups to participate in this important initiative.
