Currently, over 100,000 people are awaiting an organ transplant in the United States, and over 500,000 will need a tissue transplant this calendar year. Unfortunately, the multicultural population is currently 51% of those on the waiting list while only 20% are designated donors. Many of those waiting will experience a decreased quality of life, remain visually impaired, and/or die before suitable organs and/or tissues become available.  By increasing awareness of organ and tissue donations, we can help others make an informed decision about giving the Gift of Life.  The CORE Multicultural Task Force Scholarship will award four scholarships up to increments of $1000.00, $750.00, $500.00 and $250.00 to high school students from western Pennsylvania, West Virginia or Chemung Co. New York.

Students from all backgrounds are encouraged to be creative and write about any subject that embraces one or more themes that affect the multicultural community (e.g. second chance of life, who can benefit from organ & tissue donation, dialysis, personal stories, facts and myths about organ and tissue donations).

ELIGIBILITY: All students are eligible regardless of their background or course of study they anticipate pursuing, but those planning careers in health related occupations are especially encouraged to apply.  We would like to encourage all teachers and counselors to encourage students to participate in this contest.
