Finally packing up the car, saying goodbye to mom and
dad, and leaving home for the first time is a huge step
into adulthood for any teen.
For Brittany Grimm, who received a heart transplant
when she was 9, that leap of independence to Seton Hill
University in 2015 was even more momentous.
“The fact that I go to college full-time and I don’t get
tired often is a huge milestone,” Brittany says. “My first
week here, I thought to myself, ‘I can’t believe I’m actually
here doing this because I wouldn’t have this opportunity
without my transplant.’”
Within the last year, Britany became a university tour
guide, as well as a student ambassador. She majors in
communications and hopes to someday work for an
organization like CORE.
“Getting an education is going to allow me to carry on
the legacy that I’m able to live because of my transplant,”
Brittany says. “I just want to do my donor proud.”
