above all else
Our annual report gives us an opportunity to reflect on the challenges and
successes of the year and provokes us to think of ways we can become a better
version of ourselves.
We collect and collate data because results drives organizations. But at CORE, it is
important to recognize that our data represents real people.
People like Brandy Barkey Sweeney, a West Virginia mother, who thanks to the
precious gift of a heart transplant, is now able to enjoy life with her three children.
Or someone like Nancy Jividen, whose son Larry “Shane” Jividen gave the selfless
gift of sight to John Shuman through cornea donation.
There are many stories like theirs that live within our numbers. And this year, our
annual report shares several of them with you.
To tell more of these stories in the years to come, our dedicated team of
personnel and volunteers made the rewarding work we do a priority in their lives,
and our efforts shined brighter than ever.
We innovated processes—and in some cases, technologies—and reimagined
programs and partnerships that made our efforts more powerful. We identified
needs within the organ, tissue and cornea donation community, and offered
solutions to bridge the gaps. We envisioned news ways to reach potential donors,
and deployed outreach initiatives that broadened our influence.
Above all, we rallied for our life-saving cause. It’s a cause that for so many can be
difficult to look straight in the eye. But once you do, it’s impossible to look away.
