Goodbye and Good Luck to
Sue Johnson
At the time of her retirement in 2014, Sue Johnson served
CORE for 13 years. She started at CORE as an administrative
assistant and was instrumental in shaping the organization’s
administrative operations. Sue later moved to the finance
department as an accounting clerk.
“She will be greatly missed,” said Susan Stuart, president and
CEO. “Sue worked hard to identify opportunities to improve
efficiencies so we could uphold the integrity of our fiscal operations.”

CORE Transitions Organ
Recovery to In-house
Operating Rooms
The new Brian A. Broznick
Pavilion has afforded CORE the
opportunity to move the recovery
of organs in-house.
As an expansion of CORE’s
current offices, the
5,000-square-foot facility is
named in honor of the
organization’s former president
and CEO and includes two fully
functional operating rooms.
CORE had transitioned tissue
recovery to the facility previously,
and in March 2014 started
recovering organs there. The
move has created numerous
efficiencies, most notably the
ability to recover more organs
per donor.
CORE is able to optimize each
opportunity without the
scheduling conflicts of
hospital-based ORs, which also
relieves pressure on ICUs by
freeing up beds for patients.
New CORE Chairperson: Cheri Rinehart
CORE welcomed longtime board member Cheri Rinehart as chairperson of
the board of directors in 2015.
Cheri replaced Michael Howard at the head of the table. Her long career in
healthcare and passion for organ, tissue and cornea donation are among
the many assets she brings to her position of leadership.
Cheri is the vice president of integrated delivery systems for The Hospital
& Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP), a statewide membership services
organization that advocates for the nearly 250 acute and specialty care hospitals across
Pennsylvania. Her areas of responsibility and expertise include rural health care, trauma
systems, disaster preparedness and organ and tissue donation.
