PITTSBURGH
SPECIAL PLACE
CEREMONY
Relatives and friends of 2014 donors gathered at CORE’s
Pittsburgh headquarters on May 18 to honor all organ, tissue
and cornea donors who saved or enhanced the lives of
transplant recipients.
The ceremony featured a dedication song to honor donor
families, which was performed by Timothy Woodruff of
Wilkinsburg — the winner of CORE’s inaugural Gospel Idol.
Attendees were also treated to moving stories from Linda
Barrasse of Scranton, whose son, Cody, died at the age of 22
in 2013, and was an organ, tissue and cornea donor.
Marty Brown of Corry, PA shared his story, as a patient awaiting a
heart transplant, and Dalton Igoe, a 17-year-old from Altoona, PA,
talked about receiving his new heart and being given a second
chance at life in 2012.
The ceremony included a dove and balloon release, along
with a re-dedication of the Special Place wall, a granite wall
that commemorates donors.
