DECORATING EVENT
Marking its fifth consecutive year, CORE sponsored a
memorial floragraph portrait to appear on Donate Life
America’s float during the nationally televised Rose
Parade on New Year’s Day.
As a celebration of his life, the family of Paul J. Sciullo II,
a 36-year-old tissue donor from Bloomfield, PA,
participated in the creation of a likeness of him out
of flowers. The resulting floragraph adorned the float
to commemorate the fallen Pittsburgh Police Officer’s
life-enhancing gift as a tissue donor.
In honor of Paul’s legacy, CORE held a floragraph
decorating and dedication event on Dec. 9, 2014 at
its headquarters in RIDC Park, where his family was
introduced and they completed his floragraph.
On April 4, 2009, Paul was killed in the line of duty. He
received the highest honor presented by the Pittsburgh
Bureau of Police, the Medal of Valor and the Purple
Heart for his service and sacrifice.
Through his gift as a tissue donor, many people received
life-enhancing tissue transplants.
CORE also sponsored living donor JoAnne Burka, who
walked beside the float during the parade. In her
friend’s memory, JoAnne donated her kidney to a
stranger in need.
